The Bucket List

Life is meant to have fun, be enjoyed and be happy. It shouldn't be a boring endless cycle of you waking up and punching a clock everyday (or whatever your boring routine is). It should be sprinkled with some exciting things that prevent you from being burnt out, help you feel energized and relaxed. One way to add some color into your life is creating a bucket list.

The idea behind a bucket list is to create a list of things you hope to do before you "kick the bucket" (which I hope isn't anytime soon) but you can also use the idea for any deadline— birthdays, graduation, weddings, or before a season ends. Creating a bucket list can benefit you in several ways.

1. Learn your values

Making a list can help you figure out what is important to you and what you want out of life. Helping you understand what you like and don't like can give you a perspective on how you're spending your time. Making sure you prioritize your time to do things that have value and refuel you.

2. Motivate and keep you focused

We've all had that "why am I even doing this" moment. A bucket list can act as a checkpoint as we're pursuing our goals and remind us why we even started trying to achieve this goal in the first place. Giving us that extra push and spark we need when we want to give up because we have something exciting to look forward to.

3. Push you outside of your comfort zone

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone...or so they say. I feel like creating a bucket list adds a little friendly pressure to put at least one "outlandish" thing on there that we'll contemplate doing right up until we actually do it. The excitement and adrenaline will force us into appreciative lessons and unimaginable growth, expanding our comfort zone.

4. Enjoy life

Life comes with a bunch of shit that we have to do but is it the fun shit you want to be doing with the people you want to be around? Creating a bucket list can act as a vehicle to strengthen relationships. Encourage your family and friends to create their own bucket list, invite them on your adventures, check off things your list together, and create memories with the people you love.

5. Add to your story

Your story holds the power you give it. Whether you're at your work holiday party or talking to your little cousins your experiences have value and can inspire someone to pursue their wildest dreams. Enjoying your life and completing your bucket list will give you relatable experiences that can connect you to any and everyone.

I love exploring and trying new things. Going on adventures and embracing the spontaneity that life has to offer. I started my bucket list back in 2017:

  • Skydiving

  • Visit every state in US and get a shot glass

  • Go backpacking in a foreign country

  • Write a book

  • Swim with dolphins

  • Ride a camel and elephant

  • Pet a lion

  • Go to Africa, Middle East, China, Japan, and Australia

  • Go on a mission trip

  • Go to a Dallas Cowboys game at AT&T stadium

  • Go to an Ohio State game at the Horseshoe

  • Go to a WNBA game

So I've been indoor skydiving, wrote a book, and I'm working on visiting every state but I haven't made any progress on the other things.
